WHY NAWBO

Why Now

Chief Revenue Officer, The Selling Agency

What drew me to NAWBO Memphis was the spirit and commitment of these women business leaders to reach beyond themselves and work to empower EVERY woman to have more influence, more economic power and more success through their entrepreneurial endeavors. Owning a business can be an isolating experience and NAWBO Memphis is actively creating a network of women who are facing the same challenges to help promote each other and propel each others' success. I am inspired by the current leaders who set ambitious objectives to challenge and change the landscape for Women Business Owners in our city. Now is the time to stretch and grow our resources and programming to address the obstacles and difficulties women TRULY face when building and growing a business.

I joined NAWBO because I wanted to own my own destiny in business and be around other strong women who had "been there, done that." I wanted a piece of the thrill of owning a business and making it work. I'm excited about NAWBO Memphis now, more than ever, because of the stand NAWBO is taking on behalf of women business owners, both locally and nationally. We mean business and there is strength in our numbers. Together we bring more women entrepreneurs to the table than ever before. We are a team - women who make things happen - by putting food on the table for our families, hiring local workers to get the job done, bringing more and more women business owners to the Memphis area from outside our region, expanding our businesses to greater levels of success. Yes! We're excited to see the fruits of our efforts and celebrate progressive changes that benefit women business owners, their families, their employees, their clients, & the extended Memphis community.

NAWBO Memphis offers a unique opportunity to build relationships with women business owners who are serious about business. Not only do I get to see how they run their businesses, but I also have access to great resources to grow our business. I am excited about NAWBO Memphis now because we have a unique opportunity to propel women-owned businesses into economic, social and political spheres of influence.

As a solid participant in Corporate America for 20+ years, I was a first-hand witness to the "old boys club." In all my time in upper management corporate culture, I only had one female who attempted to mentor me. When I started my own business, I started networking and trying to fit into the entrepreneur version of that same "old boys club." I joined everything and started talking myself up. When I came to NAWBO functions, I started having casual conversations about real business struggles and these women were helping each other! And offering me advice! What??? I started attending some of the events, and my personal growth and knowledge has grown exponentially. I get real information that is timely, relevant and honest. I am in business to succeed and I will stick with NAWBO and support its cause and woman business ownership forever.

My business coach, who is a member of NAWBO in Atlanta, encouraged me to find a NAWBO Chapter in my area. She spoke so highly of the organization that I had to check it out for myself. After attending a couple of events and meeting some truly awesome women business owners, I made the decision to join. I felt as if it was the right move for me. I have learned so much from these ladies and they have indeed been an encouragement to me. I'm excited that NAWBO Memphis is growing!
